Software Engineer (Full-stack)

Build web systems and mobile apps, working across the frontend and the backend.

About the role

You'll build client web systems and mobile apps, as well as our own product, Edunoah, from requirements and design through implementation and improvements after launch. You'll lead development across the frontend and the backend and help shape our technical choices.

What you'll do

  • Defining requirements with clients and proposing technical approaches
  • Frontend and backend development of web applications
  • Building mobile apps for iOS and Android and releasing them to the stores
  • Designing and implementing APIs and databases
  • Building features with generative AI
  • Code review, testing and CI/CD
  • Maintenance, improvements and incident response after launch

Requirements

  • 5+ years of building web applications with TypeScript
  • 3+ years of frontend development with React and Next.js
  • API design and development with Node.js or similar, and designing and running relational databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL)
  • Experience building software for clients (agency or contract work)
  • Experience taking a project from requirements to release on your own
  • Building and running production systems on AWS or Google Cloud
  • Team development with Git, including code review
  • Public code (e.g. on GitHub) or past work you can show us
  • Japanese at JLPT N2 or above, plus business-level Korean or English
  • Able to work flexibly across Japan, Korea and US time zones, and to help when urgent issues come up
  • Uses generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or GitHub Copilot in everyday work
  • At least one year of experience working fully remotely
  • Comfortable working asynchronously and in writing, in tools like Slack and Notion
  • Able to sign a contractor or employment agreement with a US company from your country of residence

Nice to have

  • Building and releasing apps with React Native or Flutter
  • Building features on top of LLM APIs
  • Building multilingual (i18n) products
  • Experience as a tech lead or team lead
  • Designing with security and performance in mind
  • Experience with education products or B2B SaaS
  • Development with AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code
  • Business-level Japanese, Korean and English
